Beyond Coliving: a Life-Enhancement Experience

In a nutshell:

In this article we disclose the formula of Kalart, a life-enhancement community that blends the coliving comfort, a creative residency vibe, and intentional living to support personal growth and meaningful work. By combining shared activities, wellbeing practices, and strong connection with nature, we will learn how to create a space where people thrive collectively. We will get to know that it is a living experiment in how to build a balanced, purpose-driven life, together, every day.

A New Model for Sustainable Community Life

More than a coliving space, Kalart began as a practical inquiry into how to organize everyday life so that it supports sustained personal growth, meaningful work, and collective wellbeing. It was born from years of travel, retreat-work and reflection on the conditions that help people thrive together: regular practices that cultivate inner balance, shared rituals that foster trust, and an environment that connects daily life with the natural world.

The project did not start as a commercial venture. Rather, it emerged from the founders’ search for a durable way of living that combined the intimacy of shared household life, the focused practice of artistic residencies, and the relational depth of long-term community living. In other words, Kalart synthesizes elements of shared housing, creative residency, and intentional communal practice into an adaptable framework for sustained cohabitation and collaboration.

Origins and intention

The mission behind Kalart is not driven by business goals or the tourism sector. It did not arise to generate revenue or to exploit coliving as a commercial trend. Kalart emerged from a very personal inquiry: How can we live in a way that feels meaningful, balanced, and connected?

After more than fifteen years living and working across different countries, including seven years running a retreat center that supported people in their emotional and personal recovery, the founders recognized that community living offered the greatest possibility for growth. Yet, purely intentional communities often face complex challenges…therefore the founders started to design a hybrid model, more open and flexible: a meeting point between coliving, creative residency, and community life.

Community as a space for growth

Living in community allows personal development in ways that solitude cannot. Through everyday interaction with people from different cultures and backgrounds, we encounter a diversity of perspectives that helps us better understand who we are. The community acts as a mirror, reflecting both our strengths and our internal areas of work.

Kalart residents engage in practices such as meditation, yoga, or Tai Chi to cultivate inner silence and emotional balance. At the same time, shared living encourages a form of external listening, observing how we relate, communicate, and contribute.
In this coexistence, each of the 15 residents becomes a potential source of inspiration, collaboration, and learning.

Professional purpose and contribution

Another key dimension of wellbeing involves how we orient our energy toward the world.
Kalart gathers creatives, cultural professionals, and remote workers who continually explore new ways of learning and collaborating. Professional development becomes intertwined with social contribution, both within the coliving and in the surrounding valley.

Residents are encouraged to generate value in the local context, whether by supporting community initiatives, contributing to regenerative agriculture, or strengthening local businesses through conscious consumption.

Nature as a foundation for balance

Kalart is located in the Montseny Natural Park, the closest and largest natural reserve near Barcelona. Here, the environment is not a backdrop but a fundamental component of the project. The presence of the forest, the river, sunlight, and silence supports harmony and mental clarity. Living in deep contact with nature reinforces a slower rhythm of life, reduces external stressors, and helps sustain internal stability.

A continuous process

Kalart is the result of years of reflection, observation, and practical learning. It remains a living process: a search for equilibrium between the individual and the collective, between creativity and daily structure, between action and contemplation.

Ultimately, the project exists to explore how to live well, not theoretically, but together, in everyday life.
